WHY RESPONSIBLE & SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION OF FOOD PRODUCTS?

Before the Corona-crisis the production and consumption of food products was a substantial part of the Worlds climate- and environmental challenges. Studies show that the production and consumption of food products is responsible for about 25% of the total climate impact per person in the western countries.

The studies also show that the total climate impact from all spending per person should be reduced to a level, which is below the level that is today coming from food production and consumption alone.

When looking at the food production and -consumption there are many areas, where we can work to make a more responsible and sustainable future.

  • Environmental:
    • Reduce use of water in production
    • Use less pesticides
    • Prevent removal of rainforest
    • Eat more vegetable products and less meat
    • Use of sustainable energy in production and transport
    • Optimize transport-distances
    • Developing of packing-materials:
      • Possibility of recycling
      • Use less packing
      • “Green” packing-materials if it benefits the environment
      • Shape of packing to optimize transport
    • Health:
      • More nutritious food
      • Less use of e-numbers
      • Prevent obesity
      • Eat organic if possible
    • Animal welfare
      • Animal welfare must be documented
      • Only use of fish from sustainable fishing based on WWF's list

RESUS FOOD wish to work with products and suppliers, that within their category are more responsible and sustainable than the average alternative on the market … this is the only way we can achieve our mission.
